VIDEO: ‘Important,’ ‘timely’ discussion on burden of corticosteroid-dependent asthma

Fact checked byKristen Dowd

In a video interview, Sandhya Khurana, MD, FCCP, spoke with Healio about a session she participated in regarding corticosteroid-dependent asthma at the CHEST Annual Meeting.

“This was really, I think, timely with the availability of all the asthma biologics. It was really important to discuss,” Khurana, director of the Mary Parkes Center for Asthma, Allergy and Pulmonary Care and professor of pulmonary and critical care medicine at the University of Rochester Medical Center, told Healio.

The session explored how corticosteroid dependency affects patients in terms of toxicity and what approach can be taken to remove patients from oral corticosteroids while evaluating their adrenal function, according to Khurana.

“It was really great to have our endocrine colleague there who could also talk to us about what we can do in managing corticosteroid-dependent comorbidities in our patients,” Khurana said.
