In this video interview, Kaharu Sumino, MD, MPH, discusses a presentation on asthma reliever options for pediatric patients from the American Thoracic Society International Conference.

“There’s really not a whole lot out there, especially for younger kids, from [age] 6 to 11 [years] or younger,” Sumino, who is a professor of medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, told Healio.

In the presentation, Fernando D. Martinez, MD, director of the Asthma & Airway Disease Research Center at University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona, discussed the asthma relievers available for use in children and the need for more research in this patient population

“He highlighted the fact that we need more study in children because we just don’t have the data out there,” Sumino said.
