Top in allergy/asthma: ‘Psychosocial burden’ of food allergy; peanut allergy patch

Fact checked byDrew Amorosi

Regardless of sociodemographic or clinical characteristics, children with food allergy face a significant psychosocial burden, according to a survey of caregivers published in The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: In Practice.

More than 4,000 caregivers from households in the U.S. completed the FAIM, for which higher scores from one to seven equaled greater psychological burden. Researchers found that mean FAIM score for children with reported food allergy was 2.79, which increased to 2.96 for children with convincing food allergy and 3.21 for children with physician-confirmed convincing food allergy.
