VIDEO: Patient involvement critical to advance care, research in liver disease
Healio spoke with Ahmad Anouti, MD, a pediatric resident at UT Southwestern Medical Center, about his patient keynote address at The Liver Meeting, during which he discussed the importance of patient-centered care in liver disease.
As a researcher and biliary atresia patient himself, Anouti noted that researchers can become too focused on the numbers and research value rather than on the patients.
“This is just a step in the right approach of really bringing in the patient and having them involved in their own care, in their own research and voicing their opinions,” Anouti said. “And I think with that perspective, research can move forward to be more individualized, and more personalized, to have better overall outcomes for patients.”
