In a Healio video exclusive, Vijay Yajnik, MD, PhD, vice president of U.S. medical affairs for gastroenterology at Takeda Pharmaceuticals, shares insight and advice for gastroenterologists considering a career in industry.
“I would start with the big picture,” Yajnik, who spent most of his career in academia and transitioned to industry 5 years ago, said. “You've seen that in the last 20 years a lot of novel drugs have come out in gastroenterology and that's thanks to active collaborations with academics and industry.”
Yajnik emphasized the critical role gastroenterologists can play in accelerating access of drugs to patients through research and evidence generation.
“At every time, in my opinion, it's never too late to work with industry. ... I'm really enjoying this career here and I’m very grateful for these opportunities.”
Yajnik will be discussing his experience transitioning from clinical practice to industry during the inaugural Scrubs and Heels Summit networking event.
