Asthma Clinical Case Review

case 1: Clinical Assessment

Back

We did send a CBC just to look for her absolute eosinophil count, and in her case, her white count was a little bit on the high side, like, about 80, 90, 100 cells per microliter. Her absolute eosinophil count was about 50 cells per microliter. We also look for other markers, or biomarkers, for eosinophilic asthma, or E-asthma. Her pheno was normal, it was 9 particles per billion, and her IgE was only 10 international unit per milliliter. I also sent her to see an allergist and have a skin testing, and all her allergy skin testings were normal. I sent her for a breathing test that mimics her clinical presentation, and her FEV1 was 65% of predicted. Her FVC was normal, but her ratio was low, about 0.56. She had a good bronchodilator response, about 315 milliliters and 18%. That is compatible with the ATS criteria for bronchodilator response. Her initial asthma control test was very low, it was 10.
