Asthma Clinical Case Review

Case 1: Baseline Characteristics

Back

Today we're gonna be talking about the 45-year-old woman who has a history of late onset asthma. Her asthma started a couple of years ago, and she comes to me for the first time complaining of shortness of breath, chest tightness, and wheezing. She's only been treated with Albuterol, because she didn't have any other additional therapy. She reports several visits to the emergency room during the last year and at least three bursts of what I call the therapy. She also says that her asthma wakes her up from sleep maybe once or twice a week. On her physical exam, her blood pressure was a little bit on the high side. 130 over 85, was a little bit tachycardic. But she has a significant wheezing on her physical exam. And her heart exam is normal.
