OMED will soon bring osteopathic community together

The Osteopathic Medical Education conference, or OMED, will kick off in Orlando this week.

The event, hosted by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), is the premier osteopathic educational annual event, and runs from Oct. 6 to 8, according to a press release from the organization. The release also stated that the conference is the largest gathering of osteopathic physicians, bringing together thousands of medical students, DOs and other health professionals from across the country.

"I am looking forward to the opportunity to represent our entire osteopathic profession on a national level,” Ira P. Monka, DO, president of the AOA, told Healio. “Interacting with all that attend and spreading the news of all our accomplishments across our primary and specialty networks."

In addition to networking opportunities, OMED will feature “innovative sessions such as reviewing digital health and medicine along with Generative AI used in clinical medicine today,” according to the release. There will also be information on health care diversity and the best practices in delivering culturally competent services.

“This event brings together the osteopathic community and provides an opportunity for attendees to obtain high-quality education, discuss clinical science, and network with one another,” Joshua Lenchus, DO, OMED chair and president of the Florida Medical Association, said in the release. “OMED is a high-profile national event and an osteopathic tradition that highlights our profession as part of the solution to today’s health care challenges.”

Industry leaders will also offer their perspectives on understanding how to effectively practice in the future, according to the release.

“We have an amazing lineup of keynote speakers and presenters who will inspire and enlighten, while providing dynamic education and incredible sessions that will showcase the true distinctiveness of osteopathic medicine,” Monka said in the release.
