Key takeaways:

  • A funds flow model directs financial support back to academic orthopedic departments and physicians from their hospital system.
  • This model funds research, training and education projects.

CHICAGO — In this video from the Academic Orthopaedic Consortium Business &Leadership Symposium, Ron Faulbaum, MBA, discussed the funds flow model, which directs financial support back to departments for future research and education.

“The way we describe funds flow is: Are we getting support – directly [or] indirectly – back to the departments and physicians from their hospital system? Some departments have been very successful,” he said.

“[A funds flow model has] enabled us to do a lot of the academic work that is so important that doesn’t generate a lot of revenue such as research, training and education,” Faulbaum added.
