The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons released an updated clinical practice guideline on periprosthetic joint infection following total joint arthroplasty in patients undergoing dental procedures, according to a press release.

According to published results, patients with PTSD may be at an increased risk for postoperative ED visits, periprosthetic joint infections and revision surgery after total knee arthroplasty compared with patients without PTSD.

Treating patients with bone and joint infections with oral antibiotics led to more patients being discharged exclusively on oral antibiotics and shorter hospital stays without increasing rates of treatment failure, researchers found in a study.
