Although female representation in the workforce increased from 11% in 2007 to 18.9% in 2019, the proportion of women in senior leadership positions remained lower compared with men.

In a video exclusive with Healio Gastroenterology, Manasi Agrawal, MD, MS, and Serre-Yu Wong, MD, PhD, both from the Icahn School of Medicine, broke down what their analysis on representation health care indicate for current equity in the workforce and how to progress in the future.

“What has been really nice about this being able to pursue this study has been that we're able to address something that's both very personal but also, in a way, that we hope is also productive in a data driven way,” Wong said. “It's one thing to say things anecdotally and to hear stories and tell your own story, but it’s another thing to put it into numbers that I think matter that we can hopefully do something about.”
