LOS ANGELES — In this exclusive video from GI Outlook 2019, Klaus Mergener, MD, PhD, MBA, vice president of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, discusses the conference’s importance and how it provides an opportunity for physician leadership and administrators to network and exchange ideas.
“We are emphasizing networking at this conference,” Mergener told Healio Gastroenterology and Liver Disease. We have a lot of panel discussions, audience question and answer sessions and long breaks where our attendees can get together and really exchange thoughts and tips as to what they’re doing in their practice, what others have tried and done in their own practices and thereby learn from each other.”
One of the highlights, according to Mergener, was a session on colorectal cancer screening that provided new information on recommended testing modalities and the effectiveness of those screenings.
“That has been very informative I think for us gastroenterologists in private practice where colorectal cancer screening with colonoscopy really remains our bread and butter activity,” Mergener said.
