Healio Gastroenterology and Liver Disease received a Gold Award in the American Society of Healthcare Publication Editors (ASHPE) Awards Competition.
The prestigious award came for best special report or section. The award recognized a July 2018 section titled “Healio Hot Topic: IBS.” Guest Editor William Chey, MD, worked closely with the Healio Gastroenterology and Liver Disease staff to cultivate an in-depth look at irritable bowel syndrome for the practicing gastroenterologist.
Chey authored “IBS: Transitioning from a Syndrome to a Disease,” which outlined how heterogenous IBS really is and what challenges that gives physicians in diagnosing and treating patients. He then assisted in bringing in experts to give a full picture of IBS.
As therapies expand for IBS, Lin Chang, MD, answered the big questions on pharmaceutical treatments in “9 Things to Know About Medical Therapies for IBS,” while world-renowned dietitian, Kate Scarlata, RD, authored “Why a GI Dietitian Adds Value to a GI Practice,” to give gastroenterologists the perspective of what their patients may need nutritionally.
In a question-and-answer feature with Megan E. Riehl, PsyD, Healio delved into the emerging field of neuro- and psychogastroenterology. “GI psychologists bring value to IBS patient care” presented an opportunity to understand when and how to refer a patient to a GI psychologist and how it can benefit both practitioner and patient.
ASHPE recognizes outstanding editorial and design excellence and achievement in health care publications. The annual competition provides an opportunity for editors to measure their efforts and publications against the best the health care sector has to offer.
Three other publications affiliated with Healio Gastroenterology and Liver Disease and the online platform, Healio.com, received awards in the ASHPE competition.
Cardiology Today and its Healio staff received a Bronze Award for best conference or trade show coverage. The award recognized coverage of the 2018 American Heart Association Scientific Sessions.
HemOnc Today received a Gold Award for best legislative/government article. The award recognized HemOnc Today’s March 2018 cover story titled “Reimbursement remains ‘difficult issue’ in CAR T-cell therapy rollout.” The niche publication Cell Therapy Next also received a Gold Award for best profile. The award recognized a December 2018 article titled “From Research to Manufacturing to Treatment: A One-Stop CAR T Shop,” which explored how University of Pennsylvania became a national leader in CAR T-cell therapy.
“Our staff’s ongoing efforts have earned these exceptional honors and I am ecstatic that their hard work is recognized,” said Joan-Marie Stiglich, ELS, Chief Content Editor of Healio. “Earning these awards is a demonstration of our dedication to provide physicians with timely, relevant news and information.”
