  • AdventHealth also created an AI-assisted ambient listening service to transcribe patient visits.

ORLANDO — AdventHealth has developed novel AI tools intended to improve the lives of both patients and caregivers, according to a presentation at the AIMed24 Annual Meeting.

Victor Herrera, MD, senior vice president and chief clinical officer for the Central Florida division of AdventHealth, said the tools include Viz.ai, which enables faster clinical interventions in patients who have had a stroke, as well as an ambient listening tool that transcribes patient visits and fulfills basic documentation.

“At AdventHealth, our brand has a promise of wholeness. That means that we care not just about the body, but also about the spirit and the mind. We are convinced that AI can help us accelerate that promise for those we serve,” Herrera said.

Herrera said the innovations have already made a difference. Use of a coordinated care response powered by AI has been shown to deliver lifesaving treatments, from hospital transfers to early and precise diagnosis in imaging and early activation of physicians, according to Herrera.

Use of ambient AI may also “decrease the burden associated with writing notes and documentation,” Herrera said.

“That technology is not only proving transformative for them as they interact with their patients — bringing back the joy of the meaningful interaction between doctors and patients — that technology is also giving them back the precious gift of time,” Herrera said. “Time that they are using for themselves to invest in their own health and their well-being, but also to spend more time with their family and loved ones.”
