ORLANDO — Implementing a course focused on well-being into a high school curriculum improved happiness for students, according to a poster presented at the Lifestyle Medicine Conference.
Lily Comander, a high school senior at Noble and Greenough School, presented data comparing EPOCH happiness scores in students who took a Science of Well-Being for Teens class to a control group that did not participate.
Students who participated in the course trended toward higher happiness, with EPOCH scores rising from an average of 16.1/20 to 16.7/20 (P = .046), whereas there were not enough data to determine the control group’s change in happiness.
“This work is really important, especially given the rise in mental health challenges in teenagers,” Comander said.
