VIDEO: AAP updates guidance on RSV amid nationwide surge

NEW YORK — In this video filmed at the Infectious Diseases in Children Symposium, John V. Williams, MD, reacts to updated guidelines published by the AAP in reaction to the RSV surge in children.
The AAP said the updated guidance addresses a “need to enhance emergency readiness on a day-to-day basis in all settings to avoid interrupting continuous care of children’s physical and mental health care needs.”
Among other things, the updated guidance supports providing eligible infants with more than five consecutive doses of palivizumab in regions where there is widespread and intense RSV circulation, the AAP said.
Williams is division chief of pediatric infectious diseases at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Children’s Hospital, and director of the hospital’s Institute of Infection, Inflammation and Immunity in Children (i4Kids).
