BARCELONA, Spain — In this Healio Video Perspective from the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons meeting, Dan Z. Reinstein, MD, speaks about hyperopic SMILE with the VisuMax 800 excimer laser from Carl Zeiss Meditec.

Reinstein has been an advocate of SMILE for hyperopia since the procedure’s inception. He discussed difficulties and errors that have driven surgeons to abandon hyperopic laser surgery, but he believes that SMILE will help them reconsider this option.

“We now have a better — from the dry eye standpoint, from the meibomian gland dysfunction standpoint — procedure to offer for hyperopia on the cornea than we had before,” he said.
