BARCELONA, Spain — In this Healio Video Perspective from the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons meeting, Farhad Hafezi, MD, PhD, gives an update on PTK-assisted customized epi-on cross-linking, or PACE.

“It is a game changer in cross-linking in the sense that it is not cross-linking to stabilize. This is what we have all been doing in the past 20 years,” he said. “PACE improves vision with glasses, in some cases up to six lines.”

The technique, which Hafezi details here, is performed using three technologies: the CSO Italia MS-39 anterior segment OCT, the EMAGine C-eye cross-linking device and the Schwind Amaris excimer laser.

“We have now treated 300 eyes almost, and we have more than 200 eyes with 1 year of follow-up. The average regularization is up to 8 D, and I haven’t removed tissue, which means 1 year later I can use the excimer laser and improve even more,” he said.
