SAN FRANCISCO — At least 30% of Alzheimer’s disease cases can be prevented through lifestyle modifications, Rajesh R. Tampi, MD, MS, DFAPA, said in this Healio video from the American Psychiatric Association Annual Meeting.
“It is important for both patients and their family members to know about protection from Alzheimer’s disease,” Tampi, professor and chairman of the department of psychiatry at Creighton University School of Medicine, said. “And heart protection is brain protection.”
June is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, and according to Tampi, risk for disease can be reduced by eating healthy, engaging in regular exercise, remaining socially connected and keeping your brain active by learning new skills.
“I hope all of you pay attention to your memory, your health and join me in trying to prevent this illness, which has a lot of complications,” Tampi said.
