WASHINGTON — In this video, Norah Terrault, MD, MPG, FAASLD, chief of gastroenterology and liver diseases at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine, discusses a national strategy to eliminate hepatitis C virus.

Terrault spoke with Healio at The Liver Meeting, where a panel of experts and researchers led by Francis Collins, MD, former NIH director, detailed a plan for HCV elimination that includes improvements in diagnosis, linkage to care and treatment.

“We recognize that in order to get a national strategy that leads to many more people getting diagnosed and treated, we’re going to have to engage primary care providers who are on the frontline,” Terrault said. “They’re typically the individuals who do the diagnosis, and in the past, they would refer to specialists. Going forward we want to co-localize diagnosis and treatment.”
