NAPLES, Florida — In this video, Anita Afzali, MD, MPH, FACG, discusses key takeaways from her presentation on precision therapy in IBD at the 2022 ACG/FGS Spring Symposium.

“What I really want to highlight is the importance of practicing individualized, personalized therapy in [IBD],” Afzali, a gastroenterologist and medical director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center at The Ohio State University, told Healio. “So, we first start with recognizing that there are different prognostic factors for each of our individual patients. That’s how we can best choose precision, and that’s how we best choose the appropriate therapy for, perhaps, an aggressive phenotype.”

In discussing how clinicians can proactively monitor IBD with a range of therapies, Afzali emphasized the importance of “making sure that we’re appropriately monitoring the disease to determine whether the treatment — regardless of what the treatment is — is working for each of our individual patients.”
