This award goes to a gastroenterologist or hepatologist who consistently pushed the gastroenterology field forward through innovative treatments, practice management, patient care or research.
The awardee is recognized as a leader in his or her subspecialty and incoming physicians recognize the contributions made to the field.
In the introduction of Sheila Crowe, MD, as incoming AGA president in 2017, our past winner Maria T. Abreu, MD, recounted the inspiration Crowe gave through her success as a woman and a mother and, of course, a clinician scientist.
Her research in Helicobacter pylori infection, celiac disease, food allergy and food intolerance has been widely cited. During her AGA presidency, she facilitated the launch of the Fecal Microbiota Transplantation National Registry for AGA and worked with the American Board of Internal Medicine on modifying the maintenance of certification process.
Coming up through her research and contributing to the growth of so many leaders in GI, Crowe’s career is one of discovery and influence, one to be admired and applauded.
Crowe continues to lead by example and inspire others through her research, education and patient care.
