AGA asks health care workers to get vaccinated against COVID-19 for the safety of the workforce and to decrease the transmission risk to patients.

“AGA supports the call for all health care and long-term care employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to do everything possible to ensure the safety and health of our patients and workforce,” John Inadomi, MD, AGAF, AGA Institute President, said in a statement from the AGA.

The FDA approved the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for individuals aged 16 years or older based on safety and effectiveness data.

The AGA said it supports a joint statement signed by 58 societies and from the American Hospital Association promoting a COVID-19 vaccine mandates for all workers in health care and long-term care. The statement said the vaccination against COVID-19 is the most effective strategy to mitigate the pandemic.
