In this video exclusive, Prabhleen Chahal, MD, from Cleveland Clinic, discussed a systematic review comparing long-term recurrence of benign sporadic adenomas after endoscopic and surgical ampullectomy, presented at Digestive Disease Week.

Recurrence rate at 1, 2 and 3 years served as the primary outcome.

Results showed endoscopic ampullectomy was comparable to surgical ampullectomy, according to Chahal. She said endoscopic ampullectomy offered a safe and long-term solution to recurrence of benign sporadic adenomas.

Chahal said further studies are needed to assess patients after 5 years.
