In this video exclusive, Vikki Petersen, DC, CCN, CFMP, from the Root Cause Medical Clinic offers insights into Celiac disease and the importance of healing the gut.

May is Celiac Awareness Month.

“It is important to realize that it is not the quantity of gluten, but it is the quality,” she said. “Meaning, any gluten is too much gluten if you have Celiac disease.”

She said the diagnosis of Celiac disease can take many years. Patients need to find a clinician who fully understands the disease.

Petersen said patients need to eliminate gluten 100% from their diet. Patients need to heal the gut because the damage can impact the ability to absorb nutrients. She said the inflammation associated with Celiac disease needs to be fully healed with strong nutrition or even IV nutrition that bypasses the gut and enters bloodstream.
