In this exclusive video, Corey A. Siegel, MD, MS, director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and co-founder of ColonaryConcepts, discusses the company’s edible colonoscopy prep that comes in the form of bars and smoothies.
Siegel said they developed the prep to improve patient tolerability by addressing concerns of volume, fasting and taste fatigue associated with traditional preps.
In a phase 2b study lead by Douglas K. Rex, MD, of Indiana University School of Medicine, researchers explored the prep’s efficacy against MoviPrep, an industry standard in colonoscopy preparation. The primary outcome of the study was the proportion of participants with an endoscopic visibility rating of excellent or good based on a modified 4-point Aronchick scale.
After randomly assigning 63 patients, investigators found that 93.8% of individuals who received the ColonaryConcepts prep achieved the primary endpoint compared with 89.3% in the comparison group. Patients also reported good tolerance and a preference for the edible prep.
