Association of Healthcare Social Media meeting on hold until spring 2021
After initially postponing the meeting until later this year, organizers of the Association of Healthcare Social Media meeting have decided to cancel the meeting in 2020, pushing their inaugural gathering to 2021.
Originally scheduled to take place in Philadelphia on May 30, the AHSM was intended to guide physicians through the best practices and issues surrounding the intersection of medicine and social media.
“In March, the AHSM Board made the decision to postpone our first annual educational conference originally scheduled for May 30th at the Science History Institution in Philadelphia to late summer or early fall,” association president Austin Chiang, MD, MPH, said in an email. “Our hope was that we would be able to come together at that time in Philadelphia to learn, network, and advance the mission of AHSM.”
However, due to complications that arose due to the COVID-19 pandemic, organizers decided to cancel the meeting in 2020.
“We understand your organization may now be faced with limited funding to support associations, or your organization may continue to have restrictions for travel and/or group participation at large gatherings in place,” Chiang said. “With the ever-changing landscape of COVID-19 and the unknowns of moving forward, the AHSM Board made the difficult decision last week to cancel our 2020 meeting and move to host the first annual educational conference in the Spring of 2021.”
