In this exclusive video perspective from the GUILD Conference 2020, Lin Chang, MD, from the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles, discusses her presentation on updates in irritable bowel syndrome.

“We have fairly new diagnostic criteria, the Rome IV criteria,” Chang told Healio Gastroenterology and Liver Disease. “Now these disorders are known as disorders of gut-brain interaction. So that’s a new change. We’re trying to move away from the term ‘functional GI.’”

Chang’s presentation included new data on the best diagnostic workups for IBS, as well as some of the treatments for it. That includes some traditional therapies, as well as newer ones, like plecanatide and even fecal microbiota transplantation.

“Hopefully this will be of interest for everyone, because it’s a really common disorder that effects so many of our patients,” Chang said.

Disclosure: Chang reports financial ties with Arena, IM Healthsciences, Ironwood, OrphoMed, Salex, Shire and Takeda.
