CLEVELAND — In this exclusive video from the Cleveland Clinic IBD Master Class, Miguel Regueiro, MD, chair of the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at the Cleveland Clinic, discusses the presentation he gave about how to best navigate the forks in the road on how to position therapies for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease.

“It’s an interesting topic and we come across this quite a bit in our practices in terms of which medicine to use first and how to decide on biologic therapy at all,” Regueiro told Healio Gastroenterology and Liver Disease.

Regueiro highlighted the various biologics that are available for the treatment of ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, and discussed how each therapy plays a specific role and are effective and have safety benefits.

“Positioning each of these [therapies] depends on the patient’s profile, what we think the patient would adhere to, considerations of safety,” he said. “This was a broad topic, a good overview and hopefully the take home message is in terms of how we position therapy came across.”
