ORLANDO — In this exclusive video from Advances in IBD 2018, Seymour Katz, MD, clinical professor of medicine at the NYU School of Medicine, discusses managing older patients with inflammatory bowel disease.
“This is an ever-increasing population,” Katz told Healio Gastroenterology and Liver Disease. “By 2030, one out of every three patients coming into a community practice will be over 60.”
Katz said treating these patients can be difficult because current studies involve much younger patients, and physicians need to make judicious decisions on what medications to use.
However, Katz stressed the importance of ensuring older patients still have access to reasonable and safe care.
“It’s a complex problem, but certainly one that’s challenging and manageable,” Katz said.
