The International Foundation for Gastrointestinal Disorders announced that the online nomination period has begun for the 2019 Research Recognition Awards.

Since 2003, the awards have recognized and supported young investigators who have a record of research interests and accomplishments in neurogastroenterology, as well as the basic mechanisms or clinical aspects of functional gastrointestinal and motility disorders.

The awards, according to a press release, are intended to encourage clinicians and scientists to participate in multidisciplinary efforts to advance the understanding and treatment of functional GI and motility disorders.

A $7,500 award will be given to a recipient and their institution across three categories:

  • Clinical Science Investigator;
  • Basic/Translational Science Investigator; and
  • Pediatric Investigator - Clinical/Basic/Translational Science.

Applicants must have completed an MD or PhD, or equivalent, degree no more than 7 years prior to application and be active in basic or clinical research investigating functional GI or motility disorders.

Additionally, investigators are only eligible if they work in nonprofit institutions.

The deadline for applications is December 16, 2018.
