PHILADELPHIA – In this exclusive video perspective from the American College of Gastroenterology Annual Scientific Meeting, Irving Pike, MD, FACG, senior vice president and chief medical officer at John Muir Health and current ACG President, gives a preview of what to expect at this year’s meeting.

“Our program starts on Friday with our small sessions, practice management, the ASGE endoscopy course, pharmacology, imaging,” he told Healio Gastroenterology and Liver Disease. “And a first time for us, the first cohort for the young leadership training program. This will be very exciting. They’ve gotten started early this morning, and we’re expecting great things out of this program, which is sponsored by the institute.”

Pike also said he was excited about the named lectures scheduled throughout the meeting, including talks by David Johnson, MD, MACG, Stephen Hanauer, MD, FACG, David Greenwald, MD, FACG, and Carol Burke, MD, FACG.

The scientific portion of the program will begin on Monday, starting with the presidential plenary sessions in the morning.

“Abstracts for the presidential plenary session include topics that will improve performance on Barrett’s esophagus, even more improvement in colonoscopy and adenoma detection rate, and improving our ability to decrease the incidence and mortality of colon cancer,” Pike said.
