Technology outpaces medical law, precautions should be taken

AUSTIN, Texas — In this exclusive video perspective from GI Outlook 2018, Richard Moses, DO, JD, FCLM, of Philadelphia Gastroenterology Consultants Limited, discusses his presentation on the “dos and don’ts” of implementing technology in a medical practice.

His talk went over a few of the key technological advances that have become more common over the last few years, including artificial intelligence, social media and electronic health records.

“They’ve created a number of problems,” Moses said of electronic health records. “We reviewed burnout, we reviewed some of the depression that it causes. We can all relate to that.”

Moses explained the need to weigh the dangers of using social media in practice with its ability to promote your business.

“Social media is extremely important,” he told Healio Gastroenterology and Liver Disease. “Although I’ve written about the dangers of social media from a risk management standpoint, social media is extremely important now, particularly for marketing your practices.”
