The Biocodex Microbiota Foundation is calling on young microbiome researchers from Canadian institutions to submit proposals for consideration for a grant award.

The foundation’s 2018 Canadian Grant will award 25,000 euros to a researcher studying microbiota and directed therapies in chronic intestinal diseases, according to a press release.

“By focusing on microbiota and directed therapies in chronic intestinal diseases, the Biocodex Microbiota Foundation aims to understand better ways to help individuals with common gastrointestinal disorders,” the foundation said in the press release.

The grant is part of a multi-year research initiative launched by Biocodex to understand the interaction between microbiota and different pathologies.

As part of the research initiative, the Biocodex Microbiota Foundation awarded two grants to researchers studying the interaction between microbiota and diet earlier this year. The selected studies are examining bidirectional flavonoid microbiota interaction and its role in the prevention of colorectal cancer, and developing bacteria that act on tryptophan dietary sources and produce Aryl hydrocarbon receptor agonists to prevent and treat inflammatory bowel disease.

Applications for the grant are due on Aug. 17, 2018. The foundation encourages applications from young academics who are in their first three years of their first appointment or are a senior post-doctoral fellow with a mentor or preceptor for their project.
