True Health has announced that it will offer new comprehensive testing for celiac disease and gluten sensitivity.
The test will provide physicians with information about the specific cause of their patients’ symptoms reported as gluten sensitivity.
“Patients with gluten-related disorders often suffer in silence,” Chris Grottenthaler, CEO of True Health said in a press release. “Our aim is to provide the diagnostic insight that can help providers gain clarity about the specific cause of symptoms, allowing them to design a treatment plan that offers symptom relief and improved patient care.”
Although public awareness of celiac disease has increased, about 80% of people in the United States with the disease are undiagnosed, per the press release. Physicians often have trouble diagnosing celiac disease because its symptoms can be identical to other gluten-related conditions, like wheat allergy or gluten sensitivity.
The True Health Celiac Disease and Gluten Sensitivity Profile includes seven specific wheat-based serologic markers that can differentiate between the gluten-related conditions. The test will help clinicians determine the right diagnosis and implement the right treatment for the patient.
“Many patients self-initiate a gluten-free diet, which may be medically unnecessary, expensive, and could result in weight gain or nutritional deficiencies,” Bobbie Sutton, MD, PhD, vice president and laboratory director at True Health said. “Our tests provide clinicians with actionable results that help identify a patient’s gluten-related sensitivity and help determine the appropriate next steps.”
