ORLANDO — In this exclusive video from Advances in IBD 2017, David Suskind, MD, professor of pediatrics and director of clinical gastroenterology at Seattle Children’s Hospital, University of Washington, discusses recent advances in the use of nutrition therapy in pediatric inflammatory bowel disease.

“Diet is another tool that we can use to improve the outcomes of our patients,” he told Healio Gastroenterology and Liver Disease. “With the knowledge of the fecal microbiome and its impact on IBD, and the knowledge that diet has a major impact on the fecal microbiome, we’re now learning that we can use diet to improve our patients’ outcomes, both through the use of ... exclusive enteral nutrition, as well as using a focused exclusionary diet such as the specific carbohydrate diet.”

To learn more about protocols for the specific carbohydrate diet (SCD), exclusive enteral nutrition (EEN) or a whole foods diet for IBD, you can visit www.nimbal.org
