VIDEO: ACG task force pursues alternative MOC
ORLANDO — In this exclusive video from the World Congress of Gastroenterology at ACG 2017, outgoing ACG president Carol Burke, MD, vice chair of the department of gastroenterology and hepatology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, discussed a task force formed during her tenure that worked toward an alternative, less burdensome maintenance of certification (MOC) process.
“We have worked with the ABIM and the ABMS to try to partner on a reasonable, cost-effective program to ensure lifelong learning of physicians rather than lifelong testing,” she told Healio Gastroenterology and Liver Disease. “We also are working with the ACG governors to meet with our legislators to ensure they understand the pressure and burden of practices of physicians in the U.S., and the impact that MOC is having on physicians leaving practices.”
The task force has also worked to develop an alternative MOC “pilot program,” the principles of which she discussed in detail during her Presidential Address.
