Pentax Medical announced its new duodenoscope with a disposable elevator cap has received a CE mark and will soon launch in Europe.
The DEC Duodenoscope (model ED34-i10T2) for endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography (ERCP) procedures represents “a breakthrough solution in infection prevention with increased reprocessing operational efficiency, while ensuring reliable therapeutic performance,” according to a press release.
The scope’s single-use, sterile, distal end cap addresses the need for disposable products considering the risk for carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) infections linked to insufficient cleaning of duodenoscope elevator mechanisms.
Pentax also redesigned the scope’s distal end to expose critical surfaces and enable easy access for brush cleaning, and improved the elevator shape and the scope’s ergonomic design for easy cannulation and improved control of device positioning during procedures.
“The new DEC Duodenoscope is a world-first, combining high quality imaging and therapeutic performance with pioneering patient safety features to help reducing the risk of cross-contamination and infection,” Rainer Burkard, President EMEA, Pentax Medical, said in the press release. “Simplified reprocessing procedures also help to increase departmental productivity for confident reprocessing.”
Pentax Medical will present the new scope at the EUS-ENDO congress in France at the end of the month, according to the press release.
