CapsoVision announced the U.S. launch of CapsoCloud, a HIPAA-compliant cloud-based exam management system for the CapsoCam Plus small bowel capsule endoscope, which allows physicians to extract exam data without processing capsules after ingestion.
The FDA cleared the CapsoCam Plus in November 2016. CapsoVision markets the device as the only capsule endoscopy system that provides a 360-degree panoramic lateral image of the small bowel, and it does not require patients to wear receiver equipment during the procedure. Its purpose is to enable visualization of the small bowel mucosa in adults for detection of abnormalities.
The new cloud-based system streamlines the experience for both patients and physicians, according to a press release. After the exam is completed, patients can place the capsule in a retrieval vial and ship it in a prepaid envelope to the CapsoCloud Download Center, where the data are uploaded to the cloud-based system. Physicians can then log on to the secure portal to access the data or transfer them to a third-party capsule endoscopy reading service.
“Healthcare facilities often spend an excessive amount of time preparing and managing capsule endoscopy equipment,” Johnny Wang, President of CapsoVision Inc., said in the press release. “With CapsoCam Plus, we’ve already eliminated many of those pain points. Now, CapsoCloud further reduces the effort needed to obtain valuable examination data.”
