Healio Gastroenterology is a peer-tested news magazine that compiles essential online content from the most highly trafficked daily posts found at Healio.com/GI. This innovative print publication delivers a unique mix of daily news paired with physician perspective from leaders in the field of hepatology and gastroenterology. Healio.com/GI offers daily news, videos, journal summaries, meeting coverage and continuing medical education.

“We are pleased that Drs. Reau and Loftus have joined Healio Gastroenterology as Chief Medical Editors, and look forward to them guiding the Peer Perspective Board. Their leadership, expertise and vision will ensure that Healio Gastroenterology continues to grow as the independent voice in hepatology and gastroenterology,” Joan-Marie Stiglich, ELS, Chief Content Officer of SLACK Incorporated, the publisher of Healio Gastroenterology, said. “We are also excited that Dr. Reau shattered the glass ceiling as the first woman at SLACK to be named Chief Medical Editor of our news publications. She has been a major contributor to Healio Gastroenterology’s sister publication, HCV Next and is an active member of its Editorial Board.”

Reau is Chief, Section of Hepatology, Associate Director, Solid Organ Transplantation at the RUSH University Medical Center. She specializes in the diagnosis and management of liver diseases, and is widely regarded as an expert in hepatitis B, hepatitis C, non-alcoholic liver disease and liver transplant procedures. A graduate of the medical school at The Ohio State University, Reau is board certified in Gastroenterology, Internal Medicine and Transplant Hepatology.

Healio Gastroenterology brings a perfect balance of short high impact relevant content to the field of gastroenterology/hepatology. Given the format it can highlight more than just published articles or academic presentations. I’m excited to have an opportunity as Co-Chief Medical editor to help develop content for a wide and diverse audience. Education has always been an interest of mine, and I’m looking forward to working with the Peer Perspective Board,” Reau said.

Loftus is Professor of Medicine at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Director of the IBD Interest Group, and Consultant, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. Loftus has published more than 260 original articles, editorials, and book chapters, and has lectured extensively on the epidemiology, natural history, diagnosis, and medical management of IBD.

Healio Gastroenterology reports on developments in the field of gastroenterology in real time, not weeks or months later. Furthermore, the process by which articles are chosen for the print issues is unique, because it incorporates which stories have been gaining the most traction on social media platforms,” Loftus said. “I am excited to be Co-Chief Medical Editor for several reasons. I am thrilled to be in a role where I can help play a part in getting cutting-edge medical information out to other gastroenterologists. And I am excited to be a learner too, especially in the areas of gastroenterology that are a little bit out of my field of expertise. Hopefully I can play a small part in furthering the education of other healthcare providers.”
