SAN DIEGO — In this exclusive video from DDW 2016, Mark Pochapin, MD, from NYU Langone Medical Center, discusses Gastro Girl, a new online platform that provides support to patients with chronic gastrointestinal symptoms and conditions.

The platform’s key elements include telehealth coaching and nutritional counseling with registered dieticians and health coaches, an online support community led by digestive health experts, and a digital health journal, according to a press release.

“The possibility of video conferencing with a dietician is very helpful, particularly with some of the difficult diets like the FODMAP ... or gluten-free [diet], where the diet is such a crucial part of the therapy,” Pochapin said. “It’s going to be a wonderful way to make sure our patients get the appropriate follow-up and nutritional advice.”

“Gastro Girl’s core mission is to empower patients with chronic digestive health symptoms and conditions to take control of their health so they can feel better,” Jacqueline Gaulin, Gastro Girl’s founder and CEO, and the ACG’s former director of communications, said in the press release. “With a stellar team of leading GI clinicians and dietitians, Gastro Girl is committed to leveraging the latest technology to give patients access to the full ecosystem of digestive health expertise and connect them virtually with the critical support they need to effectively manage their health in partnership with their physicians.”

Disclosures: Pochapin reports he is an advisor for Gastro Girl. Gaulin is the founder and CEO of Gastro Girl.
