Healio Gastroenterology would like to thank Marla C. Dubinsky, MD, and James F. Marion, MD, for allowing us a glimpse into the newly minted IBD Center they are championing at Mount Sinai.

As the trend in medicine moves to caring for the whole patient from childhood through adulthood, the Susan and Leonard Feinstein IBD Clinical Center opened this year with the hopes of caring for patients with IBD from pediatrics through childbearing years and into middle age.

“I really don’t think there are many other places that have the capability to offer the complete care team within the same physical space — pediatric care providers, adult care providers, nutritionists, social workers, nurse practitioners, colorectal surgeons, research coordinators and administrative support,” Dubinsky told Healio Gastroenterology during the visit. “Essentially, we are all here for the patient, meaning the patient has the same address, same phone number; the continuity of care is there.”

Additionally, these patients can be part of cutting-edge research with clinical trials ongoing and run by top researchers, she explained. It is likely you will see posters and presentations from these in the future.

We welcome feedback from our readers on this special feature. Would you like to see more of how your peers practice medicine on a daily basis? Please reach out to us with your input.
