Ulcerative colitis can be a debilitating condition, representing a substantial impact on a patient's quality of life, and resulting in a considerable economic burden. For patients suffering with mild to moderate disease, a number of treatment options are emerging that can significantly reduce symptoms while minimizing the need for chronic use of corticosteroids.
