Dr, Kavanaugh is a Professor of Medicine at UC San Diego, where he also directs the Center for Innovative Therapy in the Division of Rheumatology, Allergy, and Immunology. He completed his medical education at Saint Louis University School of Medicine, further honing his expertise with residencies and fellowships at Baylor College of Medicine and UT Southwestern.
Dr. Kavanaugh's clinical research primarily explores rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis, focusing on their pathophysiology and the effects of novel immunomodulatory therapies. His work extends to other autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus, ankylosing spondylitis, and inflammatory bowel disease. A founding member of GRAPPA and a board member of CORRONA, his contributions to rheumatology education have been recognized with multiple UCSD Rheumatology Faculty Annual Teaching Awards.
Dr. Kavanaugh is a fellow of both the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (AAAAI) and the American College of Rheumatology (ACR), underscoring his significant impact in the field.
