Dr. N. Lawrence Edwards, a rheumatologist based in Gainesville, Florida, is affiliated with UF Health Shands Hospital. With over 20 years of medical practice, Dr. Edwards obtained his medical degree from the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine. His expertise encompasses a broad range of conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis and arthritis, and he is well-versed in the complexities of autoimmune disorders such as scleroderma and systemic lupus erythematosus.
Dr. Edwards serves as Professor of Medicine within the Division of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology at the University of Florida, Gainesville. Additionally, he holds pivotal roles as Program Director and Vice Chairman of the Department of Medicine. His academic journey commenced with undergraduate studies at the University of Notre Dame, followed by medical education at the University of Miami School of Medicine. Dr. Edwards is an active member and leader within various professional organizations, including the American College of Rheumatology, American College of Physicians, and the Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine. He has served as Past-President of the National Society of Clinical Rheumatologists and holds leadership positions with the Florida Chapter of ACP and the Gout Interest Group for OMERACT. As Chairman and CEO of the Gout and Uric Acid Education Society, a non-profit patient education organization, for over a decade, Dr. Edwards has significantly contributed to the field through more than 150 scientific articles, book chapters, and reviews, focusing on hyperuricemia, gout, and purine metabolism. His exceptional contributions have earned him the prestigious title of Master of both the American College of Physicians and the American College of Rheumatologists.
