Dr. Julie Paik is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Rheumatology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where she serves as Co-Director of the Myositis Center and Director of Clinical Trials. She earned her undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University and her medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine. Dr. Paik completed her residency in internal medicine, followed by a chief residency year, at UCLA-Cedars-Sinai/West Los Angeles Veterans Medical Center. She then pursued a rheumatology fellowship at Johns Hopkins, where she also earned a Master’s in Clinical Investigation from the Bloomberg School of Public Health to enhance her research expertise.
Dr. Paik’s clinical and research interests center on neuromuscular manifestations of autoimmune diseases, particularly myositis and scleroderma. Her current research focuses on the mechanisms of muscle disease in scleroderma and developing novel therapeutics for refractory dermatomyositis. She has led investigations on JAK inhibitor therapy for dermatomyositis and is a principal investigator in multiple clinical trials, including studies on tofacitinib for refractory dermatomyositis.
In her clinical practice, Dr. Paik provides specialized care for patients with a broad range of autoimmune and inflammatory muscle diseases, with a particular emphasis on the neuromuscular complications of scleroderma. She is recognized for her contributions to advancing treatment options and understanding of these challenging conditions.
