Dr. Akkoç MD, is a distinguished Professor of Medicine at Manisa Celal Bayar University in Turkey. With a strong background in rheumatology, Dr. Akkoç has dedicated his career to the study and treatment of ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and related rheumatic diseases. He is known for his expertise in epidemiology and has made significant contributions to the field through his extensive research and publications.
Dr. Akkoç's journey in medicine began with his graduation from Ege University Faculty of Medicine in 1982. He pursued his specialization in rheumatology at Friedrich-Alexander University in Germany, where he conducted research on apoptosis in synovial fibroblasts. In 1998, he established the Department of Rheumatology-Immunology at Dokuz Eylül University and served as its head until 2017. Currently, he continues his influential work as the Head of the Department of Rheumatology at Manisa Celal Bayar University.
Throughout his career, Dr. Akkoç has published over 300 articles, letters, and congress abstracts in renowned international journals, with his research garnering more than 6,000 citations. He has held prominent positions, including Past President of the Turkish Rheumatology Federation and the Turkish Society for Rheumatology. He is also a member of various esteemed organizations, such as the International Association for the Evaluation of Spondyloarthritis (ASAS) and the scientific committee of the European SpA Research Cooperation Network.
