Dr. Edelman is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine. He is the Director of the San Diego VA Medical Center Diabetes Care Clinic. He is the Founder and Director of Taking Control of Your Diabetes, an organization dedicated to transforming the way people live with diabetes for over 25 years. The organization has reached hundreds of thousands of people living with diabetes through national conferences, publications, television, and community programs.
Dr. Edelman completed undergraduate studies at the University of California, Los Angeles and was the valedictorian of his medical school class at the UC Davis School of Medicine. Dr Edelman received his internal medicine training from UCLA and completed his clinical endocrinology fellowship training at the Joslin and Lahey Clinics (Boston, Massachusetts) as well as a research fellowship at UCSD. Dr Edelman has written more than 220 articles and five books. He has been recognized for teaching and humanitarianism and has been chosen as Teacher of the Year among over 400 UCSD faculty members. He was the recipient of the 2009 Diabetes Educator of the Year Award by the American Diabetes Association and the 2011 Distinction in Endocrinology award by the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists. He has been listed among the top 1% of US endocrinologists by US News and World Report.
