This year’s American Society for Nutrition Scientific Sessions and Annual Meeting will take place in person in Boston from July 22 to 25.

Gwen Twillman, chief knowledge officer at the American Society for Nutrition, told Healio that more than 3,000 professionals across health care and industry will attend the conference, an aspect that makes it “unique.”

“We truly draw an interdisciplinary crowd from around the world,” Twillman said. “We feel like all of these voices need to be at the table to advance evidence-based nutrition.”

Twillman also highlighted several sessions, which will cover “the gamut of all topics under the umbrellas of nutrition.”

“We do have a session related to ultra-processed foods,” Twillman said. “It’s a tricky subject. We know that limiting these foods runs the risk of not meeting intake of key nutrients and potentially reducing diet quality, so we do need to learn more about this topic.”

Other discussions include research on the potential genomic basis for food preferences, adversarial collaboration regarding metabolic adaptation and public concern over the effects of linoleic acid and recommendations on how to include it within diets.

“I really do think the new science that’s going to be presented at the meeting is going to be really exciting,” Twillman said.
