A correlation between asthma and gastroesophageal reflux disease approached statistical significance in a retrospective observational study of 73 patients, researchers said.

The study of patients with bronchodilator response and pathological gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) found that as their DeMeester scores increased, FEV1/FVC ratios decreased, indicating some degree of reactive airway disease, Richa Sheth, MD, a second-year resident in the internal medicine program at the University of California, San Diego, told Healio at the American Thoracic Society International Conference. It was the top story in allergy/asthma last week.

In another top story, researchers found rapid, significant reductions to fractional exhaled nitric oxide in patients with asthma using the SAR443765 bifunctional NANOBODY molecule. The reductions were greater than those seen in monovalent treatments, Benjamin T. Suratt, MD, clinical lead at Sanofi, said.
